The ACS is looking for an intern interested in learning the aspects of working in an international environment.

The Arctic Council Secretariat (ACS) was established to ensure continuity and operational efficiency, and serve as the institutional memory of the Council. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Arctic Council, our main tasks include administrative and organizational support to the Chairship team and the Council as a whole, the provision of impartial advice and guidance to the Chair on institutional matters, supporting the Chairship transition process, assisting in the drafting of proposals, meeting documents and reports, implementing the Arctic Council’s communication strategy and overseeing all of its communications channels, and coordinating relationships with subsidiary bodies, observers and partners.

Description and duties:

The ACS is seeking an intern interested in learning the aspects of working in an international environment. The duration of the internship is expected to be 10-12 months full time. The intern will be under the guidance of experienced secretariat staff members. An open mind to cultural differences and a strong team spirit are essential. The intern will be involved in the following tasks:

  • provide administrative and logistical support in connection with meetings and conferences;
  • support with development and publication of social media content;
  • support with electronic archiving process modernization and file migration;
  • assist with daily administrative routines, including purchase of office supplies and general upkeep of office area;
  • other tasks as needed in accordance with the overall mandate of the Secretariat.
Skills and qualifications:
  • be enrolled in a university degree program, Bachelor’s or Master’s level (or having concluded studies no later than 12 months before the application deadline)
  • service minded disposition
  • multitasking abilities
  • strong organizational skills
  • ability to work well in a team setting
  • experience with basic business software, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • experience with communicating complex topics (such as research processes and results) to non-expert audiences and tailoring content to different social media accounts
  • strong oral and written English skills
  • experience with living in the Arctic is an advantage
Employment Requirement:

Applicants for this position must be a citizen of one of the eight Arctic States; Canada, Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, United States, Sweden, Russian Federation or Norway.

Terms of employment:

The intern will be granted a temporary contract of 10-12 months with a probation period of two months. The salary is set at approximately NOK 33 490 per month. The ACS will cover travel to/from Tromsø. The ACS will not cover accommodation costs.
