Under broad direction, the key duties of the role are:
Conduct glaciological dynamic terrain and site assessments of deep field locations for
operations including landing sites, and other on ice and snow field operations. This
involves:
Procurement of appropriate satellite imagery
Use of geo-spatial information systems to merge multiple data streams to interpret glaciological features of operational interest
Delivery of glaciology and remote sensing reports
Liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitate and lead planning groups.
Manage planning of and reporting for projects within a project management framework including:
Manage multiple remote sensing assessments and reporting simultaneously, in a dynamic operational environment.
The production of concise and operationally relevant Field Location Assessment Group (FLAG) reports.
Support the development of project Service Level Agreements in a timely manner which align with priorities, available resources and AAD operating procedures.
Undertake a lead role in planning general support for a range of AAP projects and activities.
As required work within the Operations and Logistics Branch to assist:
the AAD Incident Management Team
the development and implementation of operational policies and practices required for the safe and effective delivery of operational support
undertake project work for other sections within the Operations and Logistics Branch to support Branch priorities
There is the opportunity that the successful applicant may, from time to time (and subject to medical suitability), undertake duties within Antarctica or the sub-Antarctic to maintain direct and current knowledge of the actual operating environment.
