The main responsibilities for the position will be research and management support on insect pests in forests, especially related to bark beetles, climate change and the import of invasive pests.

The position will be in the Division of Biotechnology and Plant Health, Department of Invertebrate Pests and Weeds in Forestry, Agriculture and Horticulture.

Workplace is Ås in Akershus, Norway.

Main responsibilities:
  • Lead the monitoring program for the spruce bark beetle in Norway
  • Ensure good knowledge transfer to forest stakeholders through communication and dialogue
  • Publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Obtain external research funding from Research Council of Norway, EU and other funding sources
  • Lead and collaborate on research projects
  • Carry out research in the field and laboratory
  • Develop new and maintain existing networks within forestry, management and the research community nationally and internationally

Professional qualifications (required)

  • PhD and research experience in entomology
  • Experience with project work, writing of project applications and scientific publication
  • Good knowledge of biostatistics and the programming language R
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian and English
  • Foreign language applicants must undertake to be able to write and speak the Norwegian language within two years
  • Driver’s license for passenger cars (class B) valid in Norway
Will be evaluated positively:
  • Knowledge of ecology, faunistics, and taxonomy of insects in boreal forest areas
  • Experience with analysis of spatial data
  • Knowledge of boreal forest ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Experience with monitoring and cooperation/assignments for forest management and industry
  • International network within forest entomology
  • Experience with alien species
  • Experience with communication with user groups and the general public

The position is remunerated according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale as researcher code 1109 or senior researcher code 1183, NOK 604.900 – 796.600 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which includes a good occupational pension scheme, occupational injury and group life insurance, and low-interest home loans.
