Job description:

Situated in the heart of the Arctic TreeHouse HotelRakas Restaurant & Bar charms with its unique ambience and menu of meals made from fresh local ingredients prepared with a modern twist. We offer our guests a unique dining experience and have are passionate about ensuring quality dining under the warm glow of pine cone lamps and stylish interior design. The name of our restaurant is Rakas, which is Finnish for “beloved”, and perfectly describes our understanding of what great food should be – local food with love.

Restaurant Sommelier plays a crucial role in enhancing the dining experience by offering expert guidance and ensuring the availability of quality wines that complement the cuisine and meet customers preferences. They work closely with the Kitchen and the Waitering team to ensure extraordinary dining experiences. Duties include:

  • Excellent customer service
  • Beverage serving with a good understanding of the menu items
  • Assist customers in selecting wines that complement their food choices
  • Pairing food and wine
  • Wine list management
  • Purchasing, storing and inventory
  • Wine education for the staff (wine knowledge, service techniques, and proper wine presentation)
  • Wine tasting and evaluation
  • Organize and host wine-tasting events
General requirements:
  • You have a passion for wines
  • Hygiene and alcohol pass
  • Suitable educational background (e.g. Bartender, WSET degree or another Sommelier certificate)
  • Previous experience in the field
  • Knowledge of different grape varieties, wine regions and vintages
  • You have an eye for details
  • Capable of completing work tasks independently as well as working in a team
  • Ability to take responsibility and maintain the highest level of standards
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluent English language
  • Ability to legally work in Finland
