Mō te mahi | About the role:

The Winter Base leader is responsible for safely leading Scott Base employees and activities through the winter period whilst monitoring and maintaining organisational standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • On-ice leadership of all Scott Base employees, contractors, visitors and events over the winter period
  • Develop, support and contribute to high performing individuals, teams and cross functional relationships.
  • Coordination of delivery of winter works programme and ensuring all aspects of Scott Base operations are performed safely and sustainably.
  • Monitor critical issues and promptly highlight any potential risks
  • Ensure the physical and psychological health and wellbeing of the Scott Base Community, through setting clear expectations for behaviour.

This role will be between eight to ten months in duration, depending on the skillset of the successful candidate and operational requirements. The start date will be January 2025 and conclude approximately mid-October 2025.

Skills and Experience Include:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
  • Operational experience in remote and challenging environment
  • Current full NZ Class 1 drivers’ licence
  • Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand
  • Current full NZ Class 1 and ability to drive a manual vehicle

Due to the requirement to travel to Antarctica as a part of this role, the successful candidate must be certified medically fit by Antarctica New Zealand’s medical assessor, which requires evidence of vaccinations including influenza and COVID19.
