Mō te mahi | About the role:

As the Scott Base Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance of the Scott Base vehicle fleet consisting of Toyotas, heavy vehicles, tracked machinery and specialist vehicles such as Hagglunds, PistenBullys and snowmobiles. This role also provides support to visiting scientists and contractors.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Servicing and maintenance of vehicles and plant
  • Providing instruction and training on safe operation of vehicles and plant in Antarctica
  • Responding to breakdowns and undertaking field servicing as required.
  • Using and updating our asset management software system
  • Assist with the maintenance of the base generators
  • Serving on the Scott Base Fire Crew

This role is a 9 month ‘winter’ role based in Antarctica from approximately the end of January 2025 until October 2025.

Mōu | About you:

Your Skills and Experience will Include:

  • NZ Trade Certificate or equivalent in Heavy Diesel/Automotive Engineering
  • At least five years post-qualification experience with diesel engines, heavy wheeled and tracked vehicles, and petrol engines.
  • Current full NZ Class 1 and 2 drivers’ licence with F, W, T endorsements.
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills
